The Cedula Is...

S I G N E D ! ! ! The moment we have been waiting, hoping, praying, wishing, and dreaming of FINALLY arrived yesterday... but not at all in the way we had imagined! On Tuesday I blogged that our judicial order instructing the Civil Registry to sign the cedula would be resubmitted to the municipality soon and, if they didn't reject the order a second time, would result in a signature 10-14 days later -- we hoped. I also shared the incredible news that our friend Blair had brought our cedula problem to the attention of a very important person in Guatemala City who had the authority and the inclination to resolve the problem. What I didn't share was that the following day Blair confirmed this person had looked into the matter and had said there would be no problem with granting the signature. So we were feeling pretty certain we would have a signed cedula in a COUPLE WEEKS. But to our GREAT SURPRISE, on Friday we got an email from Adoption Supervisors telling us our judicial order had been presented to the Civil Registry that morning... and the signature in the registry book WAS ALREADY DONE! We're not sure whether the signature was given the moment the order was presented, or the signature had been given BEFORE the order even arrived. But either way, there is ABSOLUTLEY NO DOUBT this was the direct result of the attention brought to our case last week by Blair and Rand and their daughter's godparents (who we are not at liberty to name just yet). Words cannot express how grateful we are to them for the simple act of compassion that at long last has brought this nightmare previo to an end! We will forever thank them for their central role in our adoption story. - - - - We are also thankful for each of you who have longed for and prayed for this day as much as we have over the past eleven months. Our most sincere thanks to you all.
- - - - Wooo Hoooo!!!! If all goes "normally" from that point on, and if we don't receive any new previos, we should be in PGN for about seven weeks. After that it will take another six weeks for the Visa and passport to be issued. Then we will be heading HOME, around mid February. Yes, that is still a long time from now, but after ELEVEN TORTOROUS MONTHS of absolutely NO MOVEMENT, to know that the case is moving again is pure bliss. :-) Carolyn commented: Awesome!!!
