Congratulations Times Two!

Gary writing. Meanwhile, back in the States, two of my children have given us great reasons to celebrate.

First, yesterday, November 8th, Abbie was officially sworn in as an attorney. She graduated from Loyola (Chicago) Law School in May, wore herself to a nub studying for the bar, took the bar exam, started working for Howrey LLC in Chicago in September, and learned that she passed the bar in early October. Abbie has not been big on attending ceremonies for her graduations but HAD to attend the ceremony during which she signed an oath and received her license. She told me that it may have been the best day of her life thus far! Congratulations, Abbie! A full-fledged attorney. We know you will be a good one--in both meanings of that word. Cheri and I sent flowers. The card contains one of my favorite quotes regarding justice, from Micah 6:8: "Do justice, love kindness, walk humbly with God."

Second, my son Peter called me last week and told me--I am going to be a grandfather!! Peter and Gretchen have been married 2.5 years and live in Houston. So, yes, Eliana is going to be an aunt when she is about 2 years old. My father was just about the age I am now when I called him to tell him that my wife at the time and I were expecting the child that turned out to be Peter. So, I am telling Peter that this is the second time he has made someone a grandfather. My whole family is very excited with and for them. And, yes, on the one hand, it is a little odd-feeling that I am a father again so close to becoming a grandfather. On the other hand, I am much more "with it" for being able to give fatherly and grandfatherly counsel given my recent experience.
