Feeling Discouraged

Today is seven weeks since Gary and I sat with our main team in Guatemala City and heard "the cedula should be signed in 10-14 days - then the case can go back into PGN!"

Now, of course we didn't believe that "10-14 days" meant a calendar-based 10-14 days. I mean seriously, just look at what we've been told so far:

  • In December we were told this previo was a 2 week fix.
  • In January we were told the cedula should be signed in 6 weeks.
  • In March we were told the cedula should be signed in 3-4 months.
  • In June we were told the cedula should be signed in 2-3 months.
  • In August we were told the cedula should be signed in 10-14 days.

BUT IT IS NOW OCTOBER!

Our previo is TEN MONTHS OLD...
Our birthmom's cedula is STILL NOT SIGNED...
The current adoption system may soon be SHUTTING DOWN...
Our agency hasn't responded to email questions from THREE WEEKS AGO...
And NO ONE has done ANYTHING EFFECTIVE to move our case forward SINCE NOV!

Seven weeks ago if you had asked me to speculate about our case in October, I would have guessed either one month into PGN or one month into the judicial process. Instead, we are beginning our eleventh month of living apart, still waiting after ten months of failed attempts to get our cedula signed; and facing the end of our adoptions in 85 days if the new adoption law is not amended to include a grandfather clause.

{deep, weary, sigh}

Can you see why I'm feeling discouraged?
